Spanish director Icíar Bollaín confirmed today that she will direct a film inspired by the life of the famous Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta, and her filming will begin this year in Cuba.

According to the filmmaker, Scottish screenwriter Paul Laverty, a two-time winner of the Cannes Palme d'Or and a regular writer of Ken Loach's films, wrote the script for the feature from the autobiographical book of the dancer No Way Home, But the tape will not be a biopic.

The film will be articulated around the relationship of Carlos and his father, who was very strong, very special, will reflect the life of the dancer but the central axis will be the relationship of a father and a son, said the director to Prensa Latina .

Events that are not in the book of Acosta will appear and will obviate others that do exist, he specified to underline the intention not to reflect an eminently biographical work.

Bollaín, recognized by the Academy of Cinema of his country with a Goya in 2003, proposes a feature film about a personality in three stages: childhood, youth, maturity, the latter interpreted by Acosta himself, as it will delve into the present of the director of His own company in Havana.

It will also account for its development as a contemporary dancer, and for the other stages the filmmaker is in the process of casting.

According to the director, in the production will be united entities of Spain, France, Germany, United Kingdom and the Cuban Institute of Art and Cinematographic Industry (Icaic).

Acosta was a star of the Royal Ballet of London until his retirement from the great classics in 2015, when the UK Critics Circle awarded him the National Dance Award in recognition of his achievements during a lifetime dedicated to that art.

In Cuba, he also holds the National Dance Prize, while in the United Kingdom he holds the title of Sir, awarded in 2014, when he received the commendation of Commander of the British Empire.

Currently Acosta is dedicated to directing and dancing in his own company, founded in Havana, in April 2016.
